UPDATE 2/11/03 on the Montana Collies

Statement by AWCA President Jean Levitt

*Permission to crosspost*

The American Kennel Club has honored AWCA Collie Rescue of America and all of the volunteers who helped in Montana with the following letter:

Dear Mrs. Levitt,

On behalf of the American Kennel Club, I would like to extend our thanks to the American Working Collie Association and the hundreds of volunteers who for the past few months have helped care for the rescued collies in Shelby, Montana.  Your organization’s generous donations, as well as the thousands of hours spent feeding, grooming, exercising, and socializing the dogs, will go a long way to ensuring that they go on to become healthy, happy, well-adjusted canine companions.  We commend you for the dedication to your breed.

Again, thank you for your tireless efforts.

Sincerely,

Noreen E. Baxter, Vice President Public Education and Legislation

The American Kennel Club

We are very pleased the AKC sent an executive field agent to Shelby, MT, last week to investigate the condition of the dogs.  We are pleased to report that the dogs are improving daily, and according to Dr. Hardee Clark, he has none of these dogs in his clinic at this time.

We have ordered another 6-week supply of dog food for Camp Collie, 6,500 lbs, from Hills Science Diet.  To date, Science Diet has donated 25,000 lbs of food to this rescue mission.

Calmly,

Jean Levitt, President AWCA
