UPDATE 6/9/03 on the Montana Collies

Statement by AWCA President Jean Levitt

*Permission to crosspost*

Folks, we understand many of you are very anxious to adopt one of the Montana collies.  We, too, want to see them in loving homes, and we are anxious to conclude this arduous rescue.  AWCA has received MANY offers to adopt Montana collies.  We continue to maintain the list of names.  We can do no more at this point.  AWCA has placed our adoption assistance at the disposal of the authorities in Montana.  When they ask us to assist with adoption, we will do so.  Until that time, we continue to remind you that throughout the country there are many, many collies in waiting.  Contact your local rescue organizations to adopt one of these collies.

We have been assured by the Toole County Sheriff’s Office they are not going to rush through adoption of these animals.  They want to take their time and do it right.  Meanwhile, we have been asked to provide materials for an awning over the 6 outside runs at Camp Collie-Great Falls at a cost of $4800.  Red Horse Squadron of Malstrom Air Force Base will construct this awning without charge for labor.  Therefore, the AWCA Board of Directors has approved the expenditure for the awning to protect the animals from the heavy rains and hot sun of the Montana summer.

In addition, AWCA has been asked to provide another paid person to clean and disinfect pens at Camp Collie.  This additional expenditure of $2240 for 8 weeks has been approved by the AWCA Board.

Calmly,

Jean Levitt, President AWCA
