UPDATE 6/17/03 on the Montana Collies
Statement by AWCA President Jean Levitt
*Permission to crosspost*
ADOPTION
We are hearing from many of you who are willing to go to Montana between July 1 and July 15 to escort your collie home. Thank you for that! Now may we hear from those of you who are willing to go to Great Falls, Montana, between July 16 and August 7?
When Sheriff Matoon finalizes the application forms, we will let you know. Of course, an approved application form will be required before you come to Montana to pick up a dog.
Right now, the authorities are making arrangements to spay/neuter the animals. Actual adoption dates will depend on when individual animals are recovered from surgery and fit to travel.
You have asked:
Q. Do I have to stay the entire 2 weeks in Montana?
A. No. You will arrive and depart when it is convenient for you.
DONATIONS
The Shelby fund is running out of money. The financial responsibilities to the animals continue, even though they are being prepared for adoption. Please help support these animals just a little while longer. The plan is to have all animals placed before August 15 at which time the building is to be closed. AWCA will: store some of our supplies and equipment for future rescues; sell some, and put the money back into our rescue fund; donate items to local animal shelters in Montana who have suffered because the rescue took up so many resources that would normally have been directed to native Montana animals-in-need.
Hills Science Diet has gone a step beyond generosity, and agreed after all to donate the remaining shipments of food for the animals. This will save AWCA thousands of dollars. We, in turn, are helping Shelby pay bills they cannot pay because they are running out of money.
The materials for the awning to cover the 6 outside dog runs at Camp Collie, which AWCA agreed to pay for, have been greatly discounted by the vendors. For this courtesy we are very grateful. This saves us even more money. Although the building will only be in use until August 15, the awning was very necessary to shelter the animals from rain and sun.
SPECIAL RUMP
Will the woman who inquired at the beginning of this rescue about the tri rough bitch with a special marking on her rump at Camp Collie please contact Secretary Judy Cummings. She is there! I found a pretty girl with that special marking at Camp Collie, and I put a hold on her for you.
Calmly,
Jean Levitt, President AWCA
Lisa King, Director of AWCA Rescue
